Responsibility leads to school success
To teach your child how to be responsible:
• Make sure your child’s responsibilities are things she can do by herself. A nine-year-old may not be tall enough to wash the car, but she can fold laundry or feed the dog.
• Consider tying chores to learning. Ask your child to read the newspaper to find a current event to share at dinner. Or ask her to water the plants—and make a chart showing their growth.
• Avoid nagging your child. It is her responsibility to get the job done; by constantly reminding her, you’re making it your responsibility instead.
